Voting FAQ

Am I Eligible to Vote?

If you are a U.S. Citizen and over the age of 18, you can vote! You just need to register if you have not before.

I'm not registered to vote yet. How do I register?

Information about how to register to vote in Dubuque County is available here.

I forgot if I am already registered. How do I check?

You can check your registration status in Iowa here. If you registered in another state, click HERE and scroll to your state.

I'm registered to vote in Dubuque, but will be in Cedar Rapids all day. Can I just vote in Cedar Rapids?

No. You must vote at your own polling place where you are registered. For Dubuque County, check this Polling Locator.

I'm on campus and won't be able to make it home to vote. Can I vote with an absentee ballot?

YES! First, make sure you are registered. Then go HERE and select your state to apply. Note that you will still be required to print off and mail your ballot BEFORE any deadlines. Check HERE for deadline details.

Do I have to show an ID to vote?

Currently, Iowa is a "Help America Vote Act" (HAVA) state - only first time voters who did not meet the ID requirements when registering to vote need to provide ID when voting.
