Friends of the Library
The Friends of Loras College Library is a group of individuals organized to stimulate greater awareness of the Library's importance to Loras College and the greater Dubuque community.
The purpose of the Friends is to encourage better understanding, appreciation, and support of the Loras College Library and the Center for Dubuque History by familiarizing members of the College, alumni, and the tri-state community with its significance, resources and needs.
The Friends encourage interest in books and book collecting, special collections and local history. We serve as a medium for encouraging gifts and bequests of books, manuscripts and funds for needs beyond the normal budgets of the Library and Center. We sponsor programs designed to add to the intellectual and cultural life of the community.
The Friends are currently supporting purchases of books published by the Limited Editions Club. These usually appeared in boxed editions limited to 1500 copies, and were printed by some of the finest printing establishments of the time. They were accompanied with illustrations provided under special commission by outstanding artist/illustrators. Particularly noteworthy are the Matisse illustrations for Joyce's Ulysses, and the Picasso drawings for the Lysistrata of Aeschylus. The library now houses just over 450 of the 542 titles listed in the Newman bibliography. Publication began in 1929 and continued until 1985 presenting a wide panorama of the book arts in the mid-20th century.

The Friends of Loras College Library are always seeking donations of used books for their next used book sale, usually held in late fall each year. If you have any books you'd like to donate, please bring them to the Library Check Out Desk during regular business hours.
